Date: 2017-07-09 12:07 am (UTC)I first met the Doctor in 1965, when the First Doctor was introduced to Canadian audiences after the CBC began broadcasting the then-two-year-old show. I fell in love with him, and the marvelous TARDIS at that point; to a 10-year-old, something that was bigger on the inside was transcendentally wonderful.
I rediscovered the Doctor (Third and Fourth versions) via PBS when I moved to the States in 1981, and then re-rediscovered him in 2006. And I've become as much a Whovian as I've always been an science fiction and fantasy fan.

Date: 2017-07-09 05:51 pm (UTC)To be tediously literal about it, though, "too long; didn't read" has become internet for a spectrum of meaning that includes "I've been going on and on, and here's the short version." It's definitely evolved from what I believe was the original connotation of "you went on too long and I couldn't be bothered to read what you had to say."
I do enjoy watching the evolution of language use online. And I imagine that you, as an orthoepist and philologist, would as well.
